The types of animals a Maremma Sheepdog will guard is wide and varied and includes almost all sorts of animals. The Maremma will regard anything they guard as ‘their livestock’, be it animals, people or even crops and territories. Most common is sheep but they will guard anything from chickens, ducks, geese, goats, cows, pigs, people and even penguins. We’ve not used Maremmas to protect alpacas or llamas as I believe they don’t like dogs and they them selves can be used as guardians.
